Community Programming

To ensure that New Diorama is presenting work that appeals to the broad cross section of our community, we invest in programming artists and productions each season that will directly appeal to local audiences.

For example, with a significantly large Asian population of 22% making up West Euston, and with New Diorama being situated only a short distance from China Town, we have dedicated part of our programme to Chinese language work, created by NDT Community Partner True Heart Theatre.

We fundraise on behalf of all our artists and partners in order to be able to subsidise ticket costs to reflect the means of our local audiences, with Local Ticket Offers available for all long running shows

We regularly programme specific daytime childrens theatre productions which our local primary schools, Netley and Christchurch, are able to attend completely for free.

West Euston has a large elderly population, who can become at risk of becoming isolated from their neighbours and community. For every long-running show in our main programme, NDT stages one matinee which is completely free to attend for members of our local elderly community. We provide refreshments and a meet-and-greet with the cast, introducing our older local residents to those working in the theatre on their doorstep.

New Diorama pioneers an Access programme which is unique at fringe theatre level, which is totally accessible to our local residents. Thanks to Arts Council England's support we are able to provide captioned performances with STAGETEXT, and relaxed performances for the vast majority of our productions, removing any barriers for deaf, hard of hearing patrons and those who do not have English as their first language.
