Spare Tyre Artist Takeover

Spare Tyre Artists take over NDT with a week of live performance, digital artwork and film that will challenge your prejudice: dissent, sex, gender and disability.

Over the last year Spare Tyre has supported a range of artists to develop challenging and radical new work. This has been part of our 40th anniversary year, continuing our mission to inspire, innovate and nurture.

Nights at the Circus
Fauve Alice and Spare Tyre

A performance exploring sex, desire and violence.

In a post-apocalyptic world the circus is forced to continue its show every night, on and on into the future. As the night plays out the circus performers slip between their on stage personas and the person they dream to be; trapped by their own desires and lusting after new sensations.

The production has been devised in collaboration with an inclusive cast of both learning disabled and non-disabled artists.

Nights at the Circus is a Spare Tyre co-production, supported by ACE Grants for the Arts.

Wednesday 1 Nov - There will be a Q&A panel discussion after the show

Thursday 2 Nov

What’s Between Us

A provocative piece about community in the 21st century.

What’s Between Us is inspired by interviews recorded with Roehampton residents over the last five years.

From the monochrome outer landscape of concrete walkways and high-rise flats, to the colourful inner worlds of those who inhabit them, the production is a map of intriguing moments.

What’s Between Us is a Kingston University Project, in association with Spare Tyre

Friday 3 Nov - There will be a Q&A with the cast and creative team after the show

Saturday 4 Nov  - A documentary about the creative process will be screened before the show at 6.30pm

Genetic Moo

Exploring new ways to use movement capture in theatrical settings.

Genetic Moo have been creating interactive art since 2008 using computer code, graphics, sensors and projection.

Working with Inspiration Inclusive Theatre, Genetic Moo are testing their new program Upstage. It creates a live, interactive backdrop to complement on-stage action, making this technology beautiful and easy for everyone to use.

Come and see their experiments on screen.

Upstage is supported by Kent County Council, and Spare Tyre’s seed commission fund.

Play. Connect. Create.

Thinking Space is a safe space offered by Spare Tyre for artists to get together and think about your newest creative projects and ideas… And play with them!

Come ready to share your thoughts and worries about your work in an informal, intimate workshop setting, and to scratch short segments if that feels right. We’ll provide the drinks and snacks.
