A Super Happy Story (About Feeling Super Sad)

Sally is a happy person, but she’s also got an illness – one that makes her feel like she isn’t the person she wants to be.

Guys, you don’t have to worry - this is a happy story! It is SO happy. If it were a food it would be Skittles, if it were a day it would be Friday night, if it were a thing it would be a really cute puppy! It is really, really, really happy. It’s got a happy ending, it’s got a happy middle, everything turns out OK and everyone lives happily ever after. This is a happy story. But it’s also one that’s about depression.

Written by Jon Brittain (Margaret Thatcher Queen of Soho, Rotterdam, What Would Spock Do?) with music by Matthew Floyd Jones (Mannish from Frisky and Mannish).

The show has been made with the support and help of Fruit in Hull, The Marlowe Studio Theatre, Slung Low’s HUB, City Health Care Partnership, Arts Council England, Hull City Council and It is supported by the New Diorama Emerging Companies Fund.

Telling stories to make the world a little less sh*t

Silent Uproar is a Hull-based theatre company with a simple mission statement: 'Silent Uproar creates playful and provocative new work by telling the stories that will make the world a little less sh*t. We are inspired by films, comic books, and video games.'

Our work is both playful and provocative. We believe people should be challenged but also entertained, so our productions find the most playful and engaging methods to start conversations about some of the most uncomfortable and provocative issues within our society. We believe that you don't have to be 'serious' to say something 'serious'. With this we find the best ways to tell the stories we create, sometimes this means we create work in theatres, sometimes in pubs, sometimes in clubs (we were in charge of a nightclub once- it was ace).

The company does not work in a set style, we continually experiment with the different ways you can tell a story by mixing new writing with devising. Our work is inspired by pop culture especially by cinema, television, comic books, standup comedy, and video games (gaming culture in general). The company creates work as a continually changing ensemble working with new writers, musicians, technicians, and artists to create bold and innovative new work.
